CALIFORNIA CALLING
California calling like a burning light
Over a million miles of wrong and right
With a billion places to eat along the way
It doesn’t matter much though when you’re flat out broke
And everybody thinks that you’re a joke
But you’ve still got your dues to pay
No matter who or where you are
Love should be the only star
That guides on that road you find yourself upon
Love with just a hint of laughter
and getting rid of all that matters
That’s how you walk down that road in fun
Joy and heart and peace and pain
Sometimes feels like all the same
When the drums beat loud and out of time
And the poems all forget…
A voice singing loud but out of key
In a subway hall for a tiny fee
Cry’s to love, for love past and still to come
And everybody that walks right by
Just can’t help but wonder why
They worry themselves so blind and so dumb
Every last song you sing
Can boil down to just one thing
You just can’t hold on to what you’ve got
But if you work enough you know you’ll get it back
Before you have a heart attack
Come to think of it, I think maybe not
Joy and heart and peace and pain
Sometimes feels like all the same
When the drums beat loud and out of time
And the poems all forget to rhyme
Joy and heart and peace and pain
Sometimes feels like all the same
When the drums beat loud and out of time
And the poems all forget…
